Odoo Barcode set up for how your warehouse really moves

Odoo Barcode turns every receipt, transfer, pick and count into a scan instead of a typed quantity. Done well, it is the fastest way to raise stock accuracy in Odoo. Done badly, staff scan once, give up and go back to paper.

Overview

The short version

We set up Odoo Barcode around your physical warehouse: the labels you already print, the scanners your team carries, the locations on your racks and the exceptions that happen every day, such as short picks, damaged goods and mixed pallets.

ERP Builders is an independent Odoo services company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Odoo S.A. “Odoo” is a trademark of Odoo S.A.

01

What we configure

Barcode only works when the data behind it is right, so we start with the master data.

Product and location barcodes

Barcode values for products, packagings, locations and lots, with a labelling plan for racks and bins.

GS1 and supplier labels

GS1-128 parsing so one scan reads product, lot, expiry and quantity from supplier labels.

Operation types

Receipt, put-away, pick, pack and ship steps that match your Odoo inventory routes.

Lots and serial numbers

Scanning rules for tracked products, including expiry dates for food, pharma and chemicals.

Inventory counts

Scanner-based cycle counts by location, so counting no longer needs the warehouse shut.

02

Hardware that works with Odoo Barcode

Odoo Barcode runs in the browser, so any device with a modern browser and a scanner that types into it will work. For busy warehouses we recommend rugged Android devices with built-in scan engines. Smartphones with camera scanning are fine for low volumes.

We test your chosen devices against your real labels before go-live. Poor print quality and wrong symbologies cause more failed scans than any software setting.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Odoo Barcode included in Odoo Community?

The Barcode app has historically been part of Odoo Enterprise. Community users can scan into standard fields or use community modules. Check Odoo's current edition comparison before deciding.

Can we use our existing scanners?

Usually yes. Any scanner that acts as a keyboard works. We check the symbologies and suffix settings during testing.

Does Odoo Barcode work offline?

It needs a network connection to Odoo. Plan Wi-Fi coverage across the warehouse, including cold rooms and mezzanines.
