Warehouse management that speeds up picking and stops errors

A warehouse system succeeds when the people on the floor find it faster than paper. That means scanning instead of typing, the system telling people where to go, and exceptions handled on the spot.

Overview

Why this area matters

For most SMB and mid-market operations, ERP warehouse functionality with good barcode workflows covers what a standalone WMS would, without another integration.

01Typical problems

Signs the current setup has run out of road

01

Mis-picks and wrong shipments

Errors discovered by customers, not the warehouse.

02

Walking time

Pickers cross the warehouse repeatedly for single orders.

03

Receiving bottlenecks

Goods sit on the dock waiting to be booked in.

04

Paper and re-keying

Pick lists printed, annotated and typed back in.

02Capabilities

What a well-built setup includes

01

Barcode operations

Scan to receive, move, pick, pack and count.

02

Putaway rules

Suggested locations by category, package or capacity.

03

Picking strategies

04

Packing and labels

Pack stations with carrier labels and packing slips.

03Workflow

How the process runs end to end

  1. 01

    Inbound

04 — Technical notes

Design decisions worth getting right

Barcode apps run in the browser on rugged Android devices or phones, so hardware choice is flexible. Wi-Fi coverage and device ergonomics matter more than most people expect — we test both before rollout.

Very high-volume or automated warehouses may still need a specialised WMS integrated with the ERP. We assess this based on order volumes, automation equipment and labour model.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a separate WMS?

What scanners do you recommend?

Rugged Android devices with built-in scanners work well; we help select based on your environment.

Can we print shipping labels?

Yes, through carrier integrations or shipping platforms.
