Odoo Bank Reconciliation: A Step-by-Step Guide
How bank reconciliation works in Odoo: bank feeds and statement imports, matching rules, reconciliation models, partial payments, fees and month-end checks.
Bank reconciliation proves that your books match your bank. In Odoo, most of it can be automated, leaving only exceptions for people to review.
Get bank data into Odoo
There are two ways:
- Bank synchronisation: Odoo Enterprise can connect to many banks through third-party providers and import transactions automatically.
- Statement import: upload CSV, OFX, CAMT.053 or other supported formats.
Sync is easier day to day. Check whether your bank is supported in your country.
Matching transactions
For each bank line, Odoo suggests a match:
- Customer payments matched to open invoices by amount, reference or customer
- Vendor payments matched to bills
- Payments already registered in Odoo matched to the bank line
Accept the suggestion, or search for the right entry.
Reconciliation models
Models automate common lines:
- Invoice matching: match by invoice number in the payment reference
- Bank fees: post small charges to a fees account
- Recurring items: rent, subscriptions and loan payments
- Write-off: small differences within a tolerance
Set models to auto-validate only when you are confident they are always right.
Partial payments and differences
When a customer pays less than the invoice, you can leave the rest open or write off the difference, such as an early payment discount. Odoo keeps the link between the payment and invoice either way.
Payment providers
Online payments from payment providers arrive as one payout covering many payments minus fees. Match the payout to the outstanding payments and post the fee.
Month-end checks
- All bank lines reconciled up to month end
- Odoo bank balance equals the bank statement balance
- Outstanding payments and receipts reviewed and explained
- Suspense account cleared
These checks fit into a wider month-end close.
Tips
- Reconcile weekly, not monthly. Small piles are easy.
- Ask customers to use invoice numbers in payment references.
- Review auto-validated models every few months.
