Odoo Shopify Integration: Options and Setup Tips
How to connect Shopify and Odoo: connector options, what to sync (products, stock, orders, customers, payments), sync direction, pitfalls and testing.
Shopify is great at selling. Odoo is great at running the business behind the store. Connecting them properly removes manual order entry and stops overselling.
What to sync
| Data | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Products | Odoo → Shopify, or one-time import | Pick one master |
| Stock levels | Odoo → Shopify | Available quantity per location |
| Orders | Shopify → Odoo | As sales orders |
| Customers | Shopify → Odoo | Deduplicate by email |
| Payments and fees | Shopify → Odoo | For reconciliation |
| Fulfilment and tracking | Odoo → Shopify | Closes the order in Shopify |
Choosing a master
Decide where each piece of data is created and edited. Products are often created in Odoo and published to Shopify, with descriptions and images maintained in Shopify. Stock should always come from Odoo.
Connector options
- Ready-made connectors from the Odoo Apps store or SaaS providers. Quick to start, but check support, version updates and how they handle edge cases.
- Custom integration using the Shopify API and Odoo's API. More work, but fits unusual flows such as bundles, multi-store or B2B pricing.
See our Shopify integration page for how we approach it.
Pitfalls
- Taxes: Shopify and Odoo must calculate tax the same way, or invoice totals will not match.
- Discounts and gift cards: need clear mapping to Odoo lines.
- Refunds and returns: decide whether refunds start in Shopify or Odoo.
- Bundles and kits: map to Odoo kits so the right components are picked.
- Payouts: Shopify pays out net of fees. Record fees so bank reconciliation works.
Stock sync timing
Sync stock often enough to avoid overselling, especially during sales. Use a safety buffer on fast-moving items.
Testing
Test with real scenarios before go-live: a normal order, a discounted order, a partial refund, a cancelled order and a multi-item order shipped in two parcels.
Monitoring
Integrations fail silently if nobody watches them. Set up alerts for failed syncs and review a daily log.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Odoo Shopify connector?
Odoo's connector offering changes by version. Many businesses use well-supported third-party connectors or a custom integration. Check the current options for your Odoo version.
Should Shopify or Odoo be the master for stock?
Odoo should be the master for stock, because it knows about warehouses, purchases and other channels. Shopify receives available quantities.
