Odoo Quality Control: Control Points and Checks
How to run quality control in Odoo: control points on receipts and work orders, pass/fail and measurement checks, quality alerts, and reports for audits.
Quality control works best when the check happens during the work, not after it. Odoo Quality puts checks inside receipts, work orders and deliveries, so an operator records the result before moving on.
Control points
A quality control point defines:
- Where the check happens: an operation type such as receipts, or a work-order operation
- What it applies to: specific products or product categories
- How often: every time, a percentage of operations, or periodically
- Which team is responsible
Start with the points where defects are most expensive: incoming materials from new suppliers and final inspection before shipping.
Check types
Odoo supports several types of check:
- Pass/fail for simple yes/no inspections
- Measure with a norm and tolerance, such as a diameter of 10 mm ± 0.1
- Take a picture for evidence
- Instructions shown to the operator
- Worksheet for multi-field inspection forms
Measurements outside tolerance fail automatically, which removes judgement calls from the shop floor.
Quality alerts
When something fails, raise a quality alert. Alerts have a stage, owner, root cause and corrective and preventive actions. Use a simple kanban: new, in progress, solved. Review open alerts weekly.
Lots and traceability
With lots or serials enabled, every check is tied to a specific batch. If a supplier issue is found later, Odoo's traceability report shows every finished product and customer that received that lot. This is what auditors and customers want to see.
Quality in manufacturing
In Odoo Manufacturing, checks can be attached to individual operations in a routing. The operator sees the check on the shop-floor tablet as part of the work order. This is the best way to catch problems early, before more value is added to a bad part.
Reporting for audits
Use the quality checks list, filtered and grouped by product, team or result, to show inspection history. Export it for ISO or customer audits. For recurring audits, a custom report saves time.
Getting started
- List your current inspections and where they happen.
- Turn each into a control point with a check type.
- Pilot on one product family.
- Add alerts and weekly review.
