ERP for jewellery

How to choose the best ERP for Jewellery

A jewellery business needs software that thinks in grams and karats, not just pieces. Every tagged item carries gross weight, net metal weight, purity and stones; prices move with the day's gold rate; metal goes out to goldsmiths and workshops and must come back reconciled to the gram.

The right choice depends on what kind of jeweller you are. A single showroom is often well served by dedicated jewellery software. A manufacturer, wholesaler or multi-branch retailer usually outgrows it and needs a full ERP with a jewellery layer on top.

Requirements

What Jewellery businesses need from an ERP

01

Weight & purity inventory

Gross weight, net metal weight, karat/purity and stone weight on every tagged piece. Usually a must-have.

02

Daily metal-rate pricing

Prices recalculated from today's gold, silver or platinum rate, plus labour (making) charges and wastage. Usually a must-have.

03

Point of sale

Counter billing, payments, offline mode, returns and day-end cash-up. Usually a must-have.

04

Full accounting & tax

General ledger, sales tax / VAT / GST returns, bank reconciliation, financial statements. Usually a must-have.

05

Hallmarking & certificates

Hallmark or assay marks (e.g. HUID) and diamond certificates (GIA, IGI) linked to each piece. Usually a must-have.

06

Old gold buy-back & exchange

Old jewellery bought back by weight and purity and adjusted against a new sale.

07

Artisan / karigar job work

Metal issued to goldsmiths or workshops by weight, returned as finished pieces with loss checked.

08

Memo / approval stock

Goods out on approval with customers or retailers, tracked until sold or returned.

09

Multi-location inventory & barcode

Stock across branches and warehouses, barcode scanning, transfers, cycle counts.

Buyer's checklist

Questions to settle before you choose

01

Retailer, wholesaler or manufacturer?

Showrooms live on POS, tagging and old gold. Manufacturers live on metal issued to workshops and loss by stage. Most software is good at one, not both.

02

Ask for a live metal-rate demo

Change today's gold rate and watch tag prices, quotes and stock valuation update. If it takes a spreadsheet, keep looking.

03

Test reconciliation to the gram

Issue 100 g to a goldsmith, receive 96 g of finished goods and 3.2 g of scrap. The system should show the 0.8 g loss and whether it is within tolerance.

04

Plan for the second branch

Inter-branch transfers by tag, central rate control and consolidated stock are where small-shop software usually breaks.

How we implement ERP for jewellery

Preguntas frecuentes

Preguntas frecuentes

Is accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero or Tally enough for a jewellery shop?

For accounts and sales tax, often yes. For tagged stock by weight, metal-rate pricing, workshop reconciliation and multi-branch control, accounting software alone usually is not — shops pair it with jewellery software or move to an ERP.

Can Odoo handle gold weight and purity?

Not out of the box. Odoo handles products, variants, lots, consignment and subcontracting well, and a jewellery module adds gross/net weight, purity, rate-based pricing and making charges. That combination is what we implement for jewellers.

When is dedicated jewellery software the better choice?

For a single showroom that mainly needs billing, tagging, old gold exchange and savings plans, with accounts kept elsewhere. It becomes limiting once you manufacture, wholesale or run several branches.
