ERP API Integration Explained: REST, Webhooks, Auth and Idempotency
A plain-English explanation of ERP API integration: REST APIs, webhooks, authentication methods, idempotency, pagination, rate limits and error handling.

Overview
It is not the right tool for high-volume order sync or anything where a missed or duplicated record costs money. We help you use Zapier where it fits and build proper integrations where it does not.
01Data
| Entity | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Leads & contacts | App → ERP | Form tools, ad platforms and calendars creating leads or contacts. |
| Notifications | ERP → App | New orders, overdue invoices or tickets posted to chat or email tools. |
| Simple records | ⇄ Both | Low-volume updates such as tasks, notes or status changes. |
02Use cases
Forms and ad leads straight into ERP CRM.
Important ERP events posted to Slack or Teams.
Prove an automation before investing in a custom integration.
03 — Architecture
Zaps call the ERP through its API or a webhook endpoint. For anything business-critical we add a small receiving endpoint in the ERP that validates input and logs every call, instead of writing directly to records.
04Reliability
A dedicated ERP API user with minimal rights, so a misconfigured Zap cannot change data it should not touch.
Zapier task history shows failures; critical Zaps also notify a channel on error. ERP-side logs record every request.
Zapier's built-in replay for failed tasks, used together with idempotent ERP endpoints.
05 — Data mapping
| Zapier | ERP |
|---|---|
| Form fields | Lead fields |
| Event type | Notification channel |
06 — Automation
07 — Security
Least-privilege API credentials, no sensitive data passed through Zaps unnecessarily, and a list of who owns each Zap.

الأسئلة الشائعة
For a handful of orders a day it can, but missed or duplicated orders are costly. A proper integration with retries and reconciliation is safer at volume.
Yes, through their APIs or webhooks, and through available Zapier apps where they exist.
